Check out our new paper! We examine the underlying eccentricity distribution of directly imaged exoplanets and brown dwarf companions from their small orbit arcs. Imaged planets have lower eccentricities than their brown dwarf counterparts, which resemble stellar binaries.

This mind-blowing simulation by Jacob Kegerreis (of ) shows how an ancient, giant impact of Uranus could've led its 98° tilt & wildly mixed up interior structure. As perhaps the least understood planet, it needs a mission! Let's support 🚀

List of research experiences for undergrads (REUs) in astronomy has been updated at ! Note this is not exhaustive, I just made it because as an undergrad I thought the NSF site was super hard to nav. I have summaries, due dates, and links. Hope it helps!

Vera Rubin and Nancy Grace Roman, two women I was honored to know during my time at Carnegie/DTM, both died on December 25, two years apart. Maybe next December 25 we should add "celebrate giants of astrophysics" to the day's activities.

Are twin *stars* identical or fraternal? A question that has fascinated me for a long time given that I am myself a twin! Today my team & colleagues released a paper studying this exact question. It was fun because its like doing a 23andMe but for stars.

The results of the survey are quiet conclusive, so this thread will cover some of my tips for successful proposals. Bear in mind, these are just my opinions and advice based on the panels I've been a part of. There's more than one way to write a great proposal!

Hey it's not too late to apply for this great postdoc fellowship in planetary astronomy here at Caltech. There is a whole slew of people you could work with (including me). But it will be too late in 2 weeks. So, really, just do it now.
