I agree with you, but fwiw, they aren't leaving preferred partners alone. They will be watching and scrutinizing every piece of content they release, which is definitely more attention than sub <1k ppl

It’s a very open secret that Trending is a playlist specifically curated by YouTube employees to maximise their profits from big Youtubers with big viewpoints

Exactly - YouTube is making the TV play (despite it being successful off the backs of those who are specifically the antithesis of TV)
