That's kinda irrelevant to my point. Not only can we do both at once but we should do both at once, once we set the standard that those whose views we think are despicable can't speak they can equally do the same to us.

The problem is that you’re focusing on ‘we need to platform both’ when the entire point is that racists are already being platformed excessively while the victims aren’t being given that chance. It’s about whose speech is prioritised but you’re acting as if it’s about censorship.

Nobody's speech should be prioritised. I want Chelsea Manning to be able to speak as much as I want Count Dankula to not be sent to jail for his speech. You'll have to give me more examples of progressives being denied platforms.

You'd give your argument more credence if you didn't use Dankula, a guy who hangs out with fascists and lends them a platform, as some kind of pariah of free speech issues. Which he didn't even use as an argument in court. Plus, he wasn't sent to jail, so...

I'd give my argument less credence if I used anyone else. Freedom of speech isn't just for people I agree with, it's for tasteless bastards who either joke about antisemitism like dankula or who are actually antisemitic like our glorious opposition leader Corbyn

Don't know why you're pulling a Corbyn. I wonder why you'd use that case for free speech rights when it wasn't used as part of the defence and wasn't part of the judge's ruling. Also part of the defence was to prove it was a joke and not part of his ideology, which they failed at

Anyway, referring to @Hbomberguy 's original tweet, surely you have better examples of free expression/rights violations that are worth upholding as part of that conversation?

Furthermore, I'd point out that Dankula wasn't joking "about antisemitism", but was found to be "anti-semitic" which was the point of the case. A joke about anti-semitism would be "Corbyn is so anti-semitic he uses kippah's as frisbees". Or something. Read the ruling.

I do note you're a "classic liberal", but I feel that stance to be based on a logical fallacy that absolute free speech must be upheld at all costs, even when we have recent examples (such as the incel movement) showing that hate speech and incitement can lead to action.

You take all agency away from people when you assume that. Honestly tell me what the difference is between you saying "incel" shit leads to violence and a christian conservative saying video games lead to violence and so should be banned. Exact same thing

False equivalency. Because incel is a very particular movement with misogyny and violent ideology at its very root, while video games do not showcase any particular ideology so cannot be seen to lead to the same conclusion.

The case can absolutely be made that games like GTA have misogny and violence at their root.

But you didn't say GTA. You said "video games". But as you're going with that argument, could you show me how the satirical universe of the GTA games is ideologically the same as the incel or white supremacists movement, with the same goals?

Basically incel and white supremacy involve the ultimate goal of eradicating something. So what are @RockstarGames trying to eradicate?

So trying to eradicate something is bad? Should we ban the freedom of speech of marxists who call for the eradication of the capitalist class? Feminists who call for eradication of toxic men? Atheists who call for eradication of religion?

Your argument is confused. Yes, calling for genocide is bad? The eradication of ideas and ideology is fine. You can be against the tenets of Islam without wanting the genocide of Muslims, for example.

I'm saying that the mistreatment of the capitalist class under marxism is as equally as inevitable as the subjugation of ethnic minorities will be in Richard Spencer's ethnostate.
