I ❤️ ponds, but live in a tiny London flat. So I made a ‘nano pond’ using just an lamp & fruit bowl. Complete with mini waterlily.

Great to co-author this book with Matthew Keightley with the support of the wider RHS team. Preorder out Feb 2020 :)

  3. There are benefits with local sourcing, so no I never claimed that. Specifically environmentally and nutritionally, which are the most common claims (including here) the idea that ‘local = automatically better’ is not well supported by really any good evidence.

  5. I think it’s a really terrible reflection on me that everytime I go to Ireland I can’t help but feel unsconsiously suspicious because people are so polite, civil and friendly. It seems London (and twitter?) have ruined me...

The Irish leaders’ debate is really quite shocking. The three leaders have a detailed grasp of complex welfare and tax issues, they are polite and courteous, they admit mistakes, they say sorry. They might even be largely honest. Why is all that possible in Ireland but not here?

Id very much like to see the anyone else care to let know the sooner we see it and put it to bed the less the nagging doubt...

  8. It’s literally like me standing in front of a Western supermarket in Malaysia at Christmas time and shouting at a bunch of Brits because of Trump.

  9. I went there two years ago for Lunar New Year and was shouted at by a bunch of white people protesting the Chinese dog meat trade. They were unaware they were shouting at a crowd of Malaysians, none of which had likely even been to China on holiday. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What this leaves out is that this was in the milk fat alone, not the milk as a whole. And that milk is a comparatively poor source of omega 3, so twice very little is still very little. Plus the same study found organic milk was also lower in other nutrients. Notable omissions

To be honest, if I was so inclined, suing strangers for repeatedly libelling me on twitter would be a much more lucrative way to make cash...

Hey , There’s a lady called Katherine at your Waterloo Station branch that deserves some kind of customer service medal (or a raise). Helped a very flustered me navigate the self service check out half a dozen times in a crowded store. Literally made my day.

I am no legal expert, but am pretty sure accusing someone of being secretly paid by big industry to defraud their readers is slander. Of course, if it were true I could be easily exposed by a simple google search. I invite you to do so.

Cheers! Have just started working on a new one. Nature's Table with Sue Perkins debuts next Monday on Radio 4.

Instant coffee tends to be made from a different species of coffee to filter (robusta vs arabica). It has a slightly different chemical makeup, inc higher levels of caffeine, acidity and bitterness. So.....maybe?

Personally, I'd love to have 300,000 instagram followers. I'd give up this science stuff, which is frankly waayyy to hard, and just sit at home and get paid to make terrariums. But I digress...

The idea that milk doesn’t contain sugars, carbs or oils is...I guess...a novel one?

It is indeed hard to fathom why so many people think a couple of pots of lettuce on a patio is a viable replacement for what farmers do. It’s almost like they assume that farming doesn’t involve a vast amount of knowledge, skill and sacrifice to keep the world from starving.

Amazing, right? But that is going to be less than 0.0001% of their caloric needs. If you are a low carber, far lower. Then what do you do? Growing your own has many benefits, but caloric self sufficiency just isn’t one of them. Like, not at all.
