People with CF are often hospitalized. While I've not been in the hospital for a few years, many of us go to the ER multiple times a year.

Between the hospitalizations and the specialty medications, the average CF patient can easily run up bills of hundreds of thousands a year.

From a market perspective, a CF patient is a classic case of someone who should be in a high risk pool. The costs of treatment are insane.

And when my life is subjected to the whims of an open, unregulated market, the conclusion is clear: I ought not be alive.

I'm already nihilistic from living a life where sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night short of breath b/c I can't stop coughing.

My primary treatment medication has a sticker price of $259k a year. A double lung transplant is probably in my future at some point.

Now I'm learning that I may be looking at a future where I'm either thrown into a high risk pool I can't afford or denied coverage entirely.

And if this comes to pass, I will probably die.
