In Iran economic corruption and incompetence are integral to a highly ideological and repressive police state. Very tough to remove one without transforming the other.

Iran protests can put pressure on regime to change its ways domestically and internationally. But if misinterpreted & abused by Western anti-Iran crowd, they could badly backfire. Regime change not imminent.

It seems that Rouhani's rivals tried to exploit economic malaise in the wake of price hikes/slashing of subsidies to stir protests, but things got out of control as public frustration w slow economic recovery boiled over. The likeliest scenario: the system will repress it quickly

Extraordinary that the Iran protests have even spread to Hamedan. Hardliners hoped when expectations of Rouhani era were dashed, people would turn to them. Instead they turned to the street.
