Was there such a thing as "wage" in the 1200s?

There was. Even back before 1066. But it was generally in the property owner's favor. Most "wages" were rendered in kind (produce) not coin. They even would pay taxes to the king in barrels of eels and sesters of honey.

And it only took from the plague reaching England in 1349 until 1574 for the abolition of serfdom! What an amazing 225 year revolution.
