Identity politics are in the headlines whenever we talk about “the working class” or “the heartland,” terms that by default mean “white Americans” and which erase others who exists in those places. And relying on a study that never defined what “political correctness” is is bad

Also, it’s hard to act like a political coalition that wants to protect the rights of POC or other marginalized groups if you do not fight when the current administration enacts policies that are targeted to hurt those groups.

White guys need to stop talking about racial and gender issues. They just don't get it.
-
White guys have never understood that they could just say nothing. That maybe they could let black or brown or gay or women lead the convo on their own issues. But no. They never stop to think whether their input is wanted, needed, relevant, or valuable.
-
Trump ran and continues to run on identity politics, those of white men, but notice how none of these same journos complaining about Dems ever call him for that?
-
Exactly. When Rs race bait, denigrate women, and ignite culture wars, it’s smart and energizing. When black, brown, trans people say please listen to us, you’re killing us, well, we’re being ‘divisive’ and engaging in ‘losing identity politics’.
-
It’s almost like they’re trying to, oh I don’t know, get us to sit down and shut up so we can get back to only talking about white people, er, “coal jobs” “the rust belt”, and “economic anxiety”.
-
And of course it’s apparently not only fine, but a brilliant, winning strategy for Rs to unite around Kavanaugh, like that isn’t the heart and soul of white, male identity politics.

Only possible in an environment where media is too often shirking basic standards of journalism and enabling dishonest narratives of both-side-ism.

Really just the fruits of their identity politics efforts. Started by Obama who noticed that the rare dem who'd avoided a shellacking in that midterm election had used identity to rile up his voters. He did the same and created democrats' nightmare.
