Thread/Rant:
The demonizing of Kathleen Wynne - the intense, cruel, and irrational ferocity of it - is virtually unprecedented in our history. Sure, other Canadian leaders were demonized too. But, nothing quite like this.

Someone mentioned to me yesterday, if you like Wynne, people make you feel like you have to be in the closet about it. It's true. Something dark is going on here, & I think social historians will note the feverous viciousness of it as a shameful, teachable moment in our history.

It's so irrational it defies much, if any merit on policy (Ontario is stronger than it has been at many times in its history by big picture, key indicators). Rather, it's personal. Her opponents and the right wing press are tapping into a *personal hatred*.pic.twitter.com/qFuwDIskHE

They're not subtle about it either. The pictures they choose and the terms they use to describe her point in one direction: pernicious homophobia and sexism on a level so extreme, we're numb to it. To the point that even many people who should know better are embracing it.
