There are times I worry that progress will be forever slowed of complete erasure of history + wrong info we're taught both as children and adults. I mean, I recognize it in myself all the time. I don't think I actually understood what a "capitalist" actually was until a few back.

Just wild how you read things from back then and its like hey yeah actually a whole lot of the problems we have now were known problems then. A lot of this could have been said yesterday. Why didn't I grow up knowing this? I mean, I know why.

My interest in the history isn't like nostalgia or trying to recapture something, it's more like wow the state and capital came together to crush this for a century, but when we finally do know about it and recognize our lives and struggles in it we can keep building on it.

My recent obsession with uncovering early 20th century anticapitalist cartoons and media is part of this.https://twitter.com/bombsfall/status/1149040498155380736 …

Even when I'd learn about left/progressive movements in the 20th century it always somehow avoided out-and-out anticapitalism. Things might have been against "greed" or "big business" or something but never just flat out anticapitalism. The cold war did a number on our histories.

I took the AP track for most historical classes in high school, teachers sure loved going on and on about economies of scale, how great the Pinkertons were (yes, really) & how we should all stay true to the Rockefeller mentality. Half those AP credits didn’t transfer to college.

The history we do teach is so aligned with a worldview that benefits a tiny minority of people in the country, and people get bonkers upset when you suggest that maybe there's more to our history than what is ideologically approved. It's wild.

i had absolutely no idea and it's terrifying. i genuinely thought that the sentiment (and as reaction, opposition to it) was only growing in modern times. i hate seeing the "wow this could have been printed yesterday" pieces.

If you could choose an era of history to live your life in which one would it be?
