Wonder if you get paid for your labor if they dont use your assets bc in the freelance biz we call this spec work and it's bad and that's why people who know the deal avoid these kind of things, which are everywhere. But hey maybe you get paid regardless. Yep.

Ok the essence of spec work is you create a thing for a company and after it's finished the company decides whether to pay you or not, and if they do, how much to pay you. It's just free work for them which saves them money and you get whatever they want to give you, if anything.

It's a super common thing in the creative market.

Lots of times it's pitched as BE A PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL or HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO SEE YOUR ART ON THE SIDE OF A SUBMARINE or if it's a shitty agency it's just fuck you prove to us you're worth it and maybe we'll contract you.

But hey maybe I'm wrong maybe they're gonna pay every contributor a fair and consistent price for their labor regardless of whether their asset is used. Maybe this isn't just a way for a multinational corporation to avoid hiring artists to work on their AAA game.
