@ThatcherUlrich H2 is much smaller than methane and so leaks more. Also, H2's lower heat content per volume means that gas pressure would need to increase greatly. So, H2 requires new, expensive pipes...
NH3 (ammonia) is, unfortunately, very toxic and can't be used in buildings.
