The big drop in upward mobility seems to have hit those who entered the workforce after 1980 (i.e. born in 1960 or later). The Reagan years began an era of dramatically less opportunity and equity for all. The more of your career is after Reagan's election, the less well you do.
Intergenerational upward mobility has been reduced dramatically. Those born in the in the 1940's, were almost certain to earn more than their parents, no matter how much they earned.
