My new post: Carbon pricing is not, contra its early advertising, the end-all be-all of climate policy. But it can still be helpful. I check out a new proposal from @noahqk & colleagues for how to design a more modest, complementary carbon tax.https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2020/8/17/21370732/carbon-tax-simple-useful-nt2nz?utm_campaign=drvox&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter …
If Carbon Pricing is used, it must not apply only to the electricity sector (as NYISO proposes). A carbon price on electricity, but not fossil fuels, makes electricity more expensive and thus makes Beneficial Electrification less competitive. That is counter-productive.

@bobwyman We model an economy-wide price. Interestingly, we are having the opposite problem in MA, where too little attention is being paid to the electric sector:https://medium.com/@abarron/massachusetts-is-about-to-set-a-tough-new-climate-goal-we-need-ambitious-policy-in-place-fast-9d3f54f42032 …Thanks.
