I love heat pumps, we should stick in a million before we even pause...... but are they immediately decarbonising? Start the debate on line 1 of that link (COP of UK domestic ASHPs more like 2.5?) and move on to what the marginal generation really is (its not baseload CCGT)?
"immediately decarbonising" is a distraction. What is relevant is lifetime carbon emissions. For that, you must consider the "latent decarbonization" that will be enjoyed as result of measures that will reduce future grid emissions.
