CSPAN shows that traditional, in-person hearings are poorly attended. So, online hearings might result in better attendance. Also, the need to testify in person is a burden for many even in normal times. Online hearings would be more inclusive. Now they’re going to say it’s too dangerous to meet to change their rules. Or something. It’s ridiculous. And totally foreseeable.
A quick scan of the House Rules seems to indicate that as long as the committee isn't actually voting on anything, there shouldn't be a reason not to hold the hearing as long as at least two members are "present."
