CSPAN shows that traditional, in-person hearings are poorly attended. So, online hearings might result in better attendance. Also, the need to testify in person is a burden for many even in normal times. Online hearings would be more inclusive. A quick scan of the House Rules seems to indicate that as long as the committee isn't actually voting on anything, there shouldn't be a reason not to hold the hearing as long as at least two members are "present."
