I find it shameful that New York primary candidates are challenging the ballot petitions filed by their opponents. This smells of exploiting COVID-19 for personal benefit. Such exploitation of a crisis is not something that should recommend a candidate to the people. #NY10 1/
Gathering signatures was hard, because many voters were afraid to touch pens or the petition's paper or even to speak to candidates approaching them on the street. Curtailing the allowed gathering time made it impossible for some to get enough signatures. 3/

I was particularly impacted by this since I gathered most of my own signatures, unlike others who used paid or volunteer staff to gather theirs. I started a few days late, due to my involvement in rate cases early in the month. I expected to catch up, but then the Gov said STOP!

Normally, one must gather two or three times the number of required signatures so that even if someone combs through your signatures, looking for technical faults, enough "good" signatures will remain to meet the required number. I wasn't able to get 2X what I needed... 5/

Now, I've got opponents who are combing through each of my signatures looking for smudged first names, hard to read signatures, and other technical faults so that they can bump me out of the race without my having a chance to oppose them. Shameful. 6/

The list of all general objections to ballot petitions in New York City can be found at the link below. You'll note that my petitions are being objected to by two people. 7/https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KtbTjxnreuHFg6DWT-Kgyw9RRSnDKtKh/view?usp=sharing …

One of those objecting to my signatures lives with
#LindseyBoylan 's "Field Director." Apparently, Boylan is afraid to take me on and prefers to exploit COVID-19's impact to bar me from the ballot without even a chance to fight. She's also challenging#JonathanHerzog 's petitionsShow this thread -
I knew about the possibility of challenges when I got in this race. But, no one was expecting the rules to be changed mid-stream and with only two days notice. That some candidates are willing to exploit this situation is just shameful. We deserve better from our politicians. 9/
