New York State has changed the dates for filing ballot petitions for the April 23rd Primary. Petitions must be filed before midnight tomorrow (Friday) rather than in April. Ballot petitions must be signed manually, not on-line. Thus, Candidates and voters are exposed to each other and potentially spreading COVID-19. So, they have accelerated the signature gathering schedule to get petitioners off the streets two weeks early. This is extraordinary...

In New York, to get on the primary ballot, you must collect signatures from registered voters. For instance, a Congressional candidate needs 1,250 signatures. The process involves walking around the district and asking people on the street to sign a petition... Old technology...

Ugh. I can understand why they’d suspend that but just cuttting it short without telling anybody or offering alternatives... which would probably require emergency legislation by incumbents....
