We have over 2.3 million miles of gas distribution pipe serving over 64 million buildings. Those pipes are fed by 300,000 miles of transmission pipelines. "Fixing" the leaks in all those pipes is simply not possible. We must replace all fossil fuel furnaces with heat pumps.https://twitter.com/nathanpboston/status/1234118048325554176 …
Rather than fix and replace leak prone pipe with new pipe, we should remove it and replace with non-pipe alternatives (NPAs) like heat pumps. Any replacement pipes will end up being stranded assets that will burden future ratepayers and taxpayers with the costs of unused assets.

I’m saying repair not replace gas pipes. We need to triage the system while we retire it.
