Gas utilities' own 2,238,688 miles of pipe. In 2018, 1,307,796 miles of gas mains fed 69,347,952 "services" (connections from main to customers) having a cumulative length of 930,892 miles. Much of this will become stranded assets before 2050 - long before costs are recovered.
