      This underground thermal storage idea is #NotGeothermal. By repeating this lie, @ORNL inadvertently illustrates the false claims about ground source heat pumps by @ENERGY, @ashraenews, the electric power industry, and heat pump manufacturers.

      "Geothermal Heat Pump" is used by the US Government to refer to ground source heat pumps. The greatest harm in its use is the distraction caused by constant complaints from a vocal minority. While GHPs use mostly solar energy, they typically benefit from some geothermal energy.

      You blame @ENERGY for your false claims, @bobwyman? Ground source heat pumps don’t use solar energy, they use electricity. Ambient local ground temperature is climate dependent. It’s the source/sink for a reversible heat pump cycle, not the useful energy resource. #Thermodynamics

      You clearly misunderstand how ground source or geothermal heat pumps work. For a GHP with COP=3.5, when used to heat, one unit of electricity is used to produce 3.5 units of thermal energy. The 2.5 units of non-electric energy is mostly solar thermal energy stored in the ground.

      You clearly misunderstand the difference between the useful work powering a heat pump & the energy extracted from its low-temperature reservoir. You also misunderstand the difference between solar energy & ambient temperature. Do you think air source heat pumps use solar energy?

      I understand Geothermal Heat Pumps quite well. What I don't understand is why you've spent at least two years of your life anonymously trolling anything on Twitter that refers to GHP. Have you really got nothing better to do with your time?
