This is excruciating! I have a family member with a failing furnace that wants to fight climate change. They are on a tight budget (which I get!) 87% of HVAC replacements are on an emergency basis, usually with cheap equipment that isn't climate friendly. I see this coming...

Often, loop design and drilling, since they take time, block emergency upgrades to geothermal HP. But, consider installing a geothermal HP temporarily attached to a water tank heated by an air-to-water heat pump. When convenient, install the loop and connect the heat pump to it.
