Banning natural gas heating town by town. Are people aware this is going on? Thoughts? #BeneficialElectrificationhttps://twitter.com/bobwyman/status/1214191480526512128 …

Bellingham, WA seeks to ban natural gas heating in existing homes, not just in new construction. Eventually, we'll see such bans across the country, but some town must be first. #BeneficialElectrification with heat pumps is the alternative to gas. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/05/us/bellingham-natural-gas-ban.html …

They ignore that natural gas is a big player in electric. They plan to rely on hydro gen. Don't enviros want dams eliminated for fish migration? Can we ignore that because it makes their town "look good". If you believe GW is man made. Then why are you making more little people?

Less gas is needed to generate electricity for geothermal heat pumps than is needed to fire furnaces which burn gas on-site. Gas furnace efficiency is, at best, 90-95%. However, geothermal heat pumps get most of their heat from the ground and thus offer 300-400% "efficiency."

Thanks for weighing in @bobwyman. The main keynote and some breakouts at our upcoming geothermal alliance of IL conference are focusing on Beneficial electrification. So I am trying to get my head wrapped around this topic by listening/ reading what is available online

Chapter 21 of this free online book helped me understand the practical value of burning natural gas to make electricity, then heating and cooling with an electric heat pump. https://www.withouthotair.com/  We ended up buying a heat pump.

Your earlier post just said heat pump. If it's meant to mean geothermal heat pump. Then they are good.

Don..I am not certain of Bob perspective on this, but I know the utility side’s perspective is to encourage both air & ground source in large part because both create demand in the winter where they have excess capacity and lowers demand in summer where infrastructure is stressed
