P2G2P (Power to Gas to Power) should be preferred to P2G. Heat pumps and EVs are so efficient that gas converted to electricity is more efficient than gas burned at point of use. We need P2G2P to provide inter-seasonal electricity storage. Gas utilities want RNG and P2G to extend the life of their existing pipes and justify further gas expansion. But, renewable gas should be reserved for use in electricity generation since that would be more efficient than burning it for thermal energy.
