Efficiency loss obsession is misguided (Our grid is inefficient; solar is inefficient; ICE is inefficient) Scale & integration matters. Hydrogen (via power to gas) gives you system level efficiencies of sector coupling. Producing H2 (Ptg) will get cheaper and deliver more value

Not to mention that H2 fuel tanks typically run at close to 700 Bar: 10,000 psi! A tank pressurized to 250 Bar can kill if they fail catastrophically. These pressures are deadly & insane.
