Charity existed long before socialism. Socialism is about who owns the means of production. Both capitalists and socialists are able to work for social progress, equity, justice, etc. without compromising their principles. Socialism has no monopoly over good works or being good.

the Republican Party tried to revamp it. There is no incentivizing goodwill, and the people at the top have no reason to allow money to flow down to us when they could just keep it for themselves.
