People keep saying that @AOC is a socialist, but little of what she says sounds "socialist." The USA invented progressive income tax and mainstream economists have long supported a 70% top tax. The #GreenNewDeal is just rational protection of asset values. Where is the socialism?
It seems to me that conservatives label everything they don't understand as "left" or anti-capitalist. But, I can't see anything in capitalism (i.e. an economy that allows private property) that is in conflict with climate action, fair taxation, social safety net, fair wages, etc
If @AOC argued against a right to private property or for the nationalization of enterprises that weren't natural monopolies, I would think she was a socialist. But, I haven't heard her do that. All I've heard from her is policy that has no essential conflict with capitalism.
People seem to think that if socialists tend to like a policy, then that policy must be socialist. Such "guilt by association" is foolish. There are many capitalists who refuse to support good policies simply because they don't like the folk who advocate for them. That's dumb.
