3) The crowd was overwhelmingly against the project, with concerns about security and traffic heading the list. 4) There were several representatives from Elmont Against the Megamall - a group that appears to be anything but grassroots, despite commentary to the contrary...

5) There were about a dozen representatives from ESD and significant representation from the development group in the room. 6) A walkable retail village is not a “megamall.” And 400k sq ft is not a “megamall.” For comparison: Roosevelt Field is 2 mil sq ft plus.

7) Reasonable commentary about important issues like traffic and transit was a bit overshadowed by other comments that were factually incorrect, politically tinged or a bit side-show in nature (ie the honking commentary)...

In Canada, the ice making equipment of hockey rinks is often used as the source of heat for heating the audience. Belmont Park could use heat pumps to pull heat from the ice and move it to the surrounding buildings and/or stands. That would be more efficient and cheaper than gas.

Natural gas may be "better" than coal or oil, but it isn't better than geothermal heat pumps and heat recovery. The State goal is to reduce GHG emissions 80% by 2050. Gas expansion isn't financially "sustainable" if it must be retired before 2050...
