Flaring is an *oil* production issue. Now, replacing our heating oil with natural gas, like NYC is doing, would be a good thing.https://twitter.com/brucenilles/status/1078377435693867008 …

New York City Council is strong supporter of heat pumps and fossil-free heating. Also, city will soon max out gas capacity. The days of polluting fuels in NYC are limited.

Heat pumps are unsuitable for replacing heavy fuel oil boilers.

We don't have "heavy fuel oil" in New York City. I worked hard, with others, to ban it years ago. In any case, heat pumps are a fine replacement for oil heat. Oil heat replacement is most of the geothermal heat pump business today. Gas comes next.

Ah, I had missed the announcement about the remaining heavy fuel oil being converted. Good for NYC.

In NYC, #6 oil is banned now. #4 oil ends in 2030 at the latest (we are trying to accelerate that). #2 oil must now be ultra-low sulfur diesel. NYC air is cleaner than in 50 years due to reduced PM2.5.
