29 degrees and the small heat pump is still doing the job. Brand new 3800 sf ranch. Coldest day this season, below 30F all day. I love feedback loops! Data is so helpful in understanding what works and what doesn’t.pic.twitter.com/pqrEVRIO4D

If you used a geothermal heat pump, there would be no defrost cycle and thus no "cold blow" or need for gas.
It would also increase your upfront costs exponentially and the savings might never be realized.
This was a compromise. A 4 ton heat pump could carry this house. We will forever have a difference of opinion here, unfortunately. A ground source system would be $10-20k more expensive even after tax credit.
If that money is put into building shell work, it can provide better comfort, which is typically our clients’ goal. Another client can’t fix their house because they don’t have equity after buying ground source. Air source + shell work same cost the same w/ better results.
