Cool update on @DandelionEnergy The #geothermal industry spans a wide spectrum from deep electricity generation to residential heat pumps like Dandelion and all have an important part in our energy future.https://twitter.com/business/status/1001895067240550400 …

Ground source heat pumps don't use geothermal energy. "Geothermal heat pump" is a lie. 1. The local ambient ground temperature of a heat pump field is climate dependent. It is #NotGeothermal 2. Heat pumps are not heat engines. Heat pump reservoirs are not useful energy resources.

It should be noted that the amount of "geothermal" energy harvested by a "Geothermal heat pump" depends, to a great degree, on how deep the bore hole is. Here in NYC, boreholes are often 1,200 to 1,500 feet deep. At that depth, there is actually some "geothermal" heat harvested.

Your ground source heat pump article is almost 10 years old, @lloydalter, but this comment is still the best anywhere: "I just plumbed my house into the neighborhood geyser but now my air conditioning bills are too high. Any suggestions?" - Joe Jackson https://www.treehugger.com/sustainable-product-design/jargon-watch-geothermal-vs-ground-source-heat-pump.html#comment-17545728 …

In the summer they store solar heat in the relatively cool ground and thus augment the Geothermal energy available in the winter.
