NPR, this list is terrible. No wonder people are confused about security. Again with the "avoid sketchy wi-fi" advice from 2010? Please help stop this nonsense! Instead, I encourage your team to read and publish these *actionable* tips: https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/01/Device-and-Account-Security-Checklist-2.0-v1-2.pdf …https://twitter.com/NPR/status/1220542757741256706 …

When you tell people to "beware" of something common like wi-fi or links, you're just propagating fear posing as advice. It doesn't work. Also, the checklist above is a roadmap of the tech vendors failure to make products secure by default. Please write *that* article!

Spend time to get at least two friends to go through the checklist and be sure to enable 2FA. You'll quickly realize the tax you pay to learn how to enable 2FA at one service does not apply to any other. They are all unique experiences. Users are not dumb. The sites are broken.

It used to be hard and dangerous to drive a friend's car. That's how different they could be. Not anymore. You'll be able to drive my car almost instantly regardless of make/model. 2FA should be that ergonomic.
