I know I'm probably going to get a lot of hate, but I don't get why when people say anything like "gay" they are automatically called homophobic/transphobic and called out/publicly censured. I don't, but I find it absolutely ridiculous. It IS wrong, but not to that extent. CHILL
I used to think the same thing, but the problem is that people don't know you or your intentions. So if you call something bad "gay" and everyone in your circle accepts it, people outside your circle are RIGHTLY going to question whether y'all are homophobic/anti-gay
It’s not necessarily homophobic out of hate but it’s definitely homophobic out of ignorance
exactly. i don't believe in sending hate someone's way if it's ignorance, because i was ignorant and hate never helped me learn (if anything it made me willfully ignorant).

Once I heard that and really thought about it, I realized how messed up it is. I've known people IN MY CIRCLE who were gay but not open about it, and it must have made them feel like shit to hear me and others implying gay=bad. And I'm not about that.
To clarify, I definitely do not use the word "gay" to describe anything as well. I do get that tho, I just feel like the backlash is way too severe sometimes. Maybe not in every case, but sometimes it does get a little fishy as to who is being an ass/toxic.

It is homophobic just to say the word "gay" in a negative way. It is saying that being homosexual is negative. Even if you don't think that is true, using the word reinforces a culture that discrimimates against homosexuality. 1/2
But that's not correct. The argument you are making is that you should speak in a way where you ASSUME that people will misunderstand you, and that it's RIGHT for them, without context, to assume bigotry on your part.
