The story is completely dialog driven — a common mistake in modern filmmaking — unoriginal (every plot element is derived from references to prior movies). It misses badly on emotional impact (Beckett cares about losing his girlfriend for all of two seconds). Many more issues.

Solo is Star Wars reference bingo. Hey remember these dice? Hey remember this catch phrase? Hey remember the falcon? Hey remember the kessle run? Hey remember lando? Instead of letting those just be elements that just exist in the universe, it's using them as a focus/crutch.

The best way to do that is to set up the reference (without mentioning it), then connect the dot after the fact. Usually redefining the meaning of the original reference. In Solo, it’s like “spice mines, Kessel run, Millenium Falcon card game, 12 parsecs” yadda yadda
