We haven’t done enough research to take an active stand on this project. There are a number of factors - the building is from 1900, it’s been used as a triplex (with 2 units owner occupied and 1 listed at market rents).https://www.redfin.com/CA/Berkeley/1915-Berryman-St-94709/home/691401 …

seems highly at risk of being landmarked entirey because of the proposed development. Staff even recommended to the developer that they just build an ADU or two instead of the 10 unit project. Lovely response from the developer: "understood" (aka, hahaha no)

Wheres the project proposal. I never heard of a 10 unit building be proposed this deep into North Berkeley before?

Among the NIMBYs writing to the LPC:
@RBReich General summary of the 44 pages of NIMBY drivel: I'm a 40-year resident of Berryman Street and since my name is literally Karen and I am a comfortably-housed Boomer and my property taxes are $7/year, I oppose these apartments.pic.twitter.com/m9BeTmsVAJ

As someone who went to Cal (and studied urban planning!) so many folks in Berkeley are so very stubbornly opposed to any development that it drives me crazy.
-
The hypocrisy of people who fight against any change at all (even pjcts that work towards housing or transportation equity), even if clearly not historic, is astounding. Fight climate change? Ok, we'll get a Prius but oppose walkable development near transit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The sensible thing to do would be move the old house to the end of the lot and jack it up a story. Then build half the proposed new building. You'd get 9 units total and it'd probably be cheaper than tearing down an already built house just to rebuild one. Everyone wins.pic.twitter.com/c8IiaH6ZNE

This is a mad plan but it may well work. I bet you could squeeze in a tiny home somewhere on the lot as well, though, to get the unit count back up to 10.
