This is exciting story. We have been waiting for russian ppl to get interested in equities since 1996 and now it’s finally happened. Not clear to me how this changes investment case but clearly it improves it.

Interesting thread But main take out for Russia & China is nato allies are hopeless divided fractious. Biden drive to present united front to contain China as main rival doomed from get go. Russia & China alliance on other hand looks pretty solid. For now while it suits them

Once again the reality of planet biz vs planet politics are totally different. Investors see Russia as outstanding & extremely cheap investment & ignore the horrible politics. It’s what undermines sanctions: a planet politics attack on planet biz that resisted by our biz

Russian markets also doing well because it is not China - emerging market investors have been looking for alternatives to China tech. The point that Russian stocks, after this boom, are half the price of EM average suggests local/geo-politics are not ignored by investors

Since I wrote this YouTube has also been bullied into blocking videos. Seem while other dictators were at mercy of social media Kremlin has effective & successfully blocked oppositions access. Russia such big mkts gives it clout over tech giants

Turkmenistan’s state broadcaster doesn’t want people watching this footage of the president playing the keyboard Kraftwerk-style, singing with his lumbering galoot of a grandson and then doing some cringe fist-bumping. DO NOT retweet this please

Macron did not recall the UK ambassador, apparently, according to sources close to the Elysee, "for the same reason that when the cooking in a restaurant is not first class, you sack the chef, not the guy who washes the dishes."

Here comes Twitter’s trial. All Smart Voting recommendations compressed into one 140-second video.

I’d love to see Sveta get the prize but Greta is the one that really deserves it.

Bookmakers ranked Sviatlana as the 4th on the list of likely winners of the Nobel Peace Prize. The WHO, Russian politician Alexei Navalnyб and Greta Thunberg are higher on the list.

Alexei Navalny's Smart Voting video had received 900,000 views in the day since Google/Apple removed his app from their app stores. Google-owned YouTube just blocked access to it inside Russia at the request of Russian authorities.

So, now blocked our YouTube video that contained nothing but a list of endorsements. This video is not anymore available in Russia: For "extremism". It only consists of 225 names of official candidates participating in an election. Such a shame.

Telegram - which Russia tried and failed to ban for 2 years - has been messenger of choice for Kremlin opponents. Can’t see that lasting after Durov’s Smart Voting ban - a lot of opposition-leaning Russian now worried about what he might share with authorities, if told to.
