This might be as good a time as any to remind you that published a State Software Budgeting Handbook to help guide decision-makers at the state level who fund or oversee state government technology projects.

I loooove how it’s always “government doesn’t know how to x” when it’s always contractor companies building this shit.

At this point, Biden is disqualifying himself as a serious politician on a near-daily basis and if Democrats still nominate him as their candidate then they deserve to lose

It is vital we vote in 2020 like our whole damn planet depends on it. Because truly, it does. We cannot bunt on this, cannot pretend it isn't happening, that it isn't real. We may not be able to stop it but we can do triage -- so commit to the path. Help save the world.

Great thread on why "owning the market" means subsidizing ecological destruction, getting less control over the management of one's investments, and being especially vulnerable to the carbon bubble and other rapid repricings.

Your regular reminder that the federal government has many dedicated civil servants focused on, as Dana Chisnell would say, finding the truth and telling the truth.

This bears consideration. Though I'd take it farther and say that this applies to any future people don't understand. All apocalyptic futures are the same future, under the hood, and it's an old and comfortingly familiar story. The apocalyptic is a denial of future complexity.

"what if Rubio [...] voted to remove Trump. Wouldn't that make the impeachment bipartisan? And therefore nullify -- or at least mitigate -- the core of his argument that the country would see all of this as nothing more than a partisan affair?"

In an election year, Republican presidents are immune from impeachment and Democratic presidents lose their ability to appoint Supreme Court justices.

The real story here is the Millennial turnout, which went from 22% in 2014 to 42% in 2018. Keep it coming, Millennials! Vote like the world depends on it, because it kind of does.

I mean obviously the most offensive thing Dershowitz said was that the president can do anything if he even *thinks* his re-election is in the national interest. But I think this didn't get enough attention: Dersh asserted that the danger to the country from removal was revolt.

37mph winds blew over the border wall 37mph😑 Btw remember the 700,000 hungry Americans Trump kicked off SNAP to “save money”? The $18B he’s wasted on this wall could have funded their SNAP for for 16+ years.

Practice Fusion, a SF-based electronic health-records maker, made a secret deal to nudge doctors to prescribe more opioids. Pharmaceutical company paid just $1m for a program that ensnared over 3,000 victims, many of whom may well have become addicts. ☠️

The media is doing such a terrible job, and it's not even due to malice or ignorance this time. It's the framing. They are applying the legal framework of US democracy to a show trial, and thus lending it legitimacy, instead of viewing it rightly as an authoritarian power play.

Ah, I see Dershowitz has reached the "the president's supporters would revolt if we were to remove him from office lawfully, so we shouldn't do that" part of the defense. Cool, cool.
