Burning Man Traffic

Traffic is still trickling out of Black Rock City. Drive safe.

Traffic still flowing smooth out of black Rock City. Approx 1 hour to highway.

There is no pulsing on Gate Road. Traffic on the highways is good. Remember to double check your loads to make sure they are secure. Drive safe.

Exodus is continuing and conditions are great. A steady 5 mph on Gate road until the pavement, then steady but light traffic all the way to I-80. We'll be watching traffic for the rest of the evening, so stay tuned if a problem crops up.

The flow of traffic leaving Burning Man is dropping to a trickle. The backup between Gerlach and Empire is moving at normal speeds now. And it is a clear shot to I-80 and beyond. Stay safe, drive during the day if you can, and get home dusty and happy.

Traffic on 447 is back to two lane, normal flow. A back-up still lingers between Gerlach and Empire, but once you past that, you can drive the speed limit all the way to Nixon and beyond.

There is no pulsing on Gate Road. Traffic on the highways is good, except for the continued backup on 447 SB between Gerlach and the earlier brush fire. The alternating of one lane while passing the incident is significantly slowing the trip to Reno.

If you are in the line on 447 waiting for your turn to go south, past the contained wild fire, please STAY IN YOUR CAR. There is north bound traffic and lots of sheriffs in the area travelling to incidents. Please stay safe.

NDOT confirms that the road is open and no more closures are expected. Traffic is down to one lane at the location of the fire, so once you hit MP 61 take it slow and careful as you pass the incident. The back up of traffic stretches 8+ miles, almost to Empire, so be patient.

447 brushfire is out. Traffic is moving again.

A change in wind direction has halted the use of a pilot car, unfortunately. And NDOT confirms that this will take some time to resolve and the road will be closed throughout their efforts.

A pilot vehicle has begun escorting traffic again on Hwy 447 southbound past the brushfire south of Empire.

If you are stopped in traffic on 447, PLEASE remain in your vehicles. Emergency vehicles are headed to the scene of the fire.

A wildfire has broken out along NV 447 and the NDOT has closed the road in both directions. They will work with BLM to give an estimate later on how long this closure will last.

Currently the steady but moderate flow of traffic leaving the event does not require pulsing and the drive time at the posted 5 mph speed limit is under an hour.

Please do not pass other vehicles on Highway 447! The time you save is not worth the risk to yourself and those around you.
