    I wanted to be a teacher since 2nd grade. Here I am with my doll collection—I used to line them up and play “school.” Later, I had the chance to be a special education teacher and a law professor because America invested in kids like me. We need to invest in kids again.

    This is an incredible thread.

    Let me very clear. I like Bob Iger. I do NOT speak for my family but only for myself. Other than owning shares (not that many) I have no more say in what happens there than anyone else. But by any objective measure a pay ratio over a thousand is insane.

    My dad left FBI and joined the Navy when ordered to round up Japanese Americans. One of his lessons was “you can always say no.”

    Just saw and it beat Aquaman as my favorite DCEU film thus far. The action and humor were great. The performances and chemistry between and the rest of the cast was strong. Lots of Easter eggs+surprises. Post credit scene was hype. I want Shazam 2 now!

    I absolutely hate it when the mentally disabled, often nonverbal character turns out to have psychic powers. King and Koontz do this all the time. There’s always an undertone of “wow this burdensome person was actually “useful” all along, good thing we were nice to them.”

    Hey so what are some science fiction/fantasy tropes that you absolutely hate, not because the tropes are problematic or anything but just because you, personally, cannot stand them

    And of course they so often heroically sacrifice themselves (so the main characters don’t need to be responsible for caretaking afterwards)... Anyway I prefer stories where a disabled person who needs a lifetime of help doesn’t need ridiculous powers to justify their existence
