What even more impressive to me is that being a leftie I would have expected him to use his left hand to spell Andy’s name. Using his non-dominant right hand is more challenging (unless he’s really ambidextrous, which could be a “Petefact”! lol).

I'm a a left-hander and I sign with a dominant right hand, but I write left-handed. The video may have been flipped horizontally, making it appear he was signing right handed. Also, he's a pianist. They have excellent fine motor skills in both hands.

Yeah, I finger spell with my right hand and I'm left-handed. It was easier to learn and mimic that way.

That's how Phil Mickelson, a rightie, learned how to play golf left-handed, by mirroring his father. So ... I gather there are right and left-handed ASLers - (meaning left to right and right to left)? Look at all the stuff we're learning about sign language. #YayPeteYayAndy

It’s not exactly left to right or right to left. It’s more of which hand is the dominant hand both in producing signs and fingerspelling.

You can see how this works in the video..”hi” “Andy” and “thank you” done with his non-dominant (right) hand. But “support” in ASL is made with the dominant hand underneath. Here Pete switches to his left (left fist under right fist). I’d make it with my right hand underneath.
