For some reason the diagrams look misaligned on GitHub, looked much better in vim - oh well, some things are just hard in computing I guess! :-)

Next I want to see how I can move this to Rust for s390x, and then add support for 3215 console and possibly (although unlikely) SCLP console.

I started to dig into the z architecture a bit more and wanted to start by learning about IPL and my good friend the Disabled Wait state. I made a program that when IPLd straight goes into Disabled Wait, and tried to document everything in the process. Seehttps://github.com/bluecmd/iplz/blob/master/ipl.S …

The words you’ll hear will be: Kicking and screaming. As in “I will drag the rest of this industry in the right direction kicking and screaming”

Shout-out to the Observability track who seems to do this right. People forced to stay for Q&A, 15 min between talks so plenty of time to exit and get seats. Good job

It's really a shame that
@fosdem moderators do not stop people from exiting and entering during the Q&A. It ruins the talk by not being able to have a dialog as any sound is drowned in people talking and walking.Prikaži ovu nitHvala. Twitter će to iskoristiti za poboljšanje vaše vremenske crte. PoništiPoništi -

Instead of doing this behind closed doors I figured I'd write up what I have and what doesn't work for interested people to have a look. https://docs.google.com/document/d/13LmWRTFpXu0Kld--K8YMLieHpcGD7Ja4H6NeKQv6_Zw/comment …. If anyone has any idea how to do this correctly, I'm all ears!

Now with my DS6800 up and running finally, I took a stab at generating my IOCDS - it works with a single PATH= and LINK= but I'm scratching my head how I can express a fan-out scenario (e.g. mainframe has 1x 8G FICON out, switch has 4x 2G out).

A bit of a long-shot, but I'm trying to find what IC these somewhat unique looking BGAs belong to. I'm pretty sure they are PCI-X related, but I don't know for sure. Anyone used to design cards when PCI-X was around and recognize the pads?pic.twitter.com/Atvn8FMhIB

they are more invested in Rust than Go. The goal of using Golang was to encourage contributions, as it is a more approachable language. But if a company staffs up and maintains a Rust BMC that seems like another way to solve that problem. Thoughts and ideas are welcome! 2/2

I've been thinking on where to go next with u-bmc. Given that motherboard adoption and corporate sponsorship has been challenging, I'm quite interested to see what
@oxidecomputer end up doing. I'm pretty sure we're aligned on the vision for what BMCs should be, however 1/2Prikaži ovu nitHvala. Twitter će to iskoristiti za poboljšanje vaše vremenske crte. PoništiPoništi -
In the meantime I'll use this as a reference for Fejkon and continue the development there. I'm happy to know that this avenue exists though for future work.

PoC'd! Linux on VMware ESXi with QLogic QLE2562 card providing 3590-style tape drives for a z/VM system over native FICON. This implementation I'm basing this on is very bound to just tapes however, but if somebody is up for some serious reverse engineering any FICON should work.pic.twitter.com/3AwBjuH4Cy

This is a helpful reminder why you shouldn't accept the cost of running a distributed system before you need to. A single machine can be really fast if you let it.https://twitter.com/ewenmcneill/status/1217654720396791809 …

Apparently the Dell/EMC DLm2100 and newer uses normal QLogic QLE2562 FC cards to speak FICON. Looks like it uses a special firmware and possibly different interface. This might be cool to look into more.
