Beautiful! I got interested in this stuff when I learned that if you look at an "amoeba" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amoeba_(mathematics) … (i.e. a log-space picture of the solution to a polynomial equation) from far away, it becomes a tropical variety.

This seems really interesting! Can you recommend a book or an article about algebraic geometry in general? There is still a lot i have to learn.

Well, I can't say I know much about algebraic geometry either
... I guess a standard beginning source is "Varieties, Ideals, and Algorithms" by Cox, Little, O'Shea, though it doesn't get to amoebas. Sturmfels's "Solving systems of polynomial equations" goes at a quicker pace... - 2 more replies
