My understanding is that the German and French approach to transliteration of Cyrillic letters are different; hance Chebyshev vs Tchebysheff, for example. Maybe the same thing here?

Another example along these lines which really surprised me when I learned of it: Delone sets and Delaunay triangulations are both named for the same person! The wikipedia article currently switches between spellings from paragraph to paragraph, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Delaunay …
