There is a backlash happening re: Sapphic period pieces, so I'mma just stay over here and mind my own business but what I will say is that we should evaluate art from an expectation of surplus rather than from a place of scarcity.

The question of representation is almost always best answered not at all, but if y'all gotta talk about it, the answer is usually best formulated as yes and not "not this, that" etc etc.

Y'all know how I feel about the identity reindeer games y'all be running, an yes, do I find it all to be a bunch of mirror hungry fascism, but like, I do be wanting to see myself sometimes, but the answer is more rep, not ever-shifting narrowly defined ideas of "good rep"

I mean, but at bottom, the idea of representation is tedious neoliberal jargon because if you really think about it, expecting representation turned out by a machine that has no capacity to recognize your humanity is only ever going to be flat.

Like, the whole formulation of representation in our culture is, like, reductive by nature and the only thing it can ever do is equate love with turning us into flat pieces of currency to be exchanged in its marketplace, but I do wanna see black homosexuals on screen, so.

But anyway, I do think if we're going to suffer under this weird ethic of representation, then "yes and" is more helpful than "no, no, this" because, tbh, more is always better, because sometimes the mood do be changing.

And maybe one day we can talk about how representation is really just a marketing pyramid scheme, lmfao, but anyway, have a wonderful day.

Thank you! Sometimes, I feel as if such reindeer games are gonna send me into an irreversible coma.

That reminds me of some books I ran across that were romance/YA-oriented for Muslim girls. And some people were upset b/c it wasn't literary fiction. It was just plain fun fluff. There was this expectation that there would be suffering and great sentences. Nothing else.

I'm on board with you, but I also think the idea of canon is about "if you want to get the general idea, here's a list of some I think are representative and good". Human attention is limited, so it can't be endless. Whoever ends up making the list used is considered the expert.
