It's a serious red flag when the House Calendars chair calls to ban lobbyists for local government not because of some high-minded ethical concern, but simply because they testified against his bill. It's an objectively terrible bill. No one should be punished for saying so.

FWIW, the last Austin police academy was fully subscribed. They have trouble GRADUATING officers -- minorities and women drop out in disproportionate numbers for reasons the Kroll Report identified (beating them up, group punishments, etc.), but plenty of ppl apply.
