Attorneys often asked if they should hyperlink their briefs. At SCOTX I recommend hyperlinks as emphasis to important materials in the appendix. Hyperlinks to the appendix don’t require internet access. Our system automatically hyperlinks to Westlaw for statutes, cases, & regs.

Blake, there’s a new tool in
@Fastcase (free for members of the@statebaroftexas) that will automatically create public (to anyone) links to cited cases in a Word or PDF document. If that’s helpful, would you consider adding instructions in a future version of this guide? -
Absolutely!

I would be more comfortable with citing the opinions directly from the court rather than a private system. What if Casetext or Google Scholar are discontinued? (RIP Google+) I'm not wild about creating links to cases with contain privately owned "keynote" type summaries.

I'd recommend using https://perma.cc/ . No matter where the site goes, you'll have a link that works. Also, for the record, we at
@casetext aren't going anywhere :)

I like having the full text of the link followed by "(last accessed on [date])." Since this would be cumbersome in the text of the brief, It could be added in manually to the table of authorities.
