    Obviously McCullough wrote the definitive history of the canal (he always does), but this one was also extremely good, and I recommend it to anyone. Mega-projects are very much my jam.

    I will say that if you ever get a chance to visit Panama, there's a very easy day trip out to the Miraflores lock, which is one of the biggest in the Panama Canal. Great visitors center. It's frankly incredible to see - highly recommended.

    I haven't seen anything as widespread as what describes, but it's a big country (and market). Nevertheless, maybe tech firms should just consider widening their net a little?

    I know of Triangle tech firm(s) being looted of talent by other companies hiring remote and offering 2-3x what those folks are being paid currently. Gotta keep up!

    Tech salaries are undergoing a reset. This isn’t the 8-15% annual increase. This is 30, 40, 100% increases, depending on the role. Maybe it’s the Fed. Maybe it’s just demand. But the reason everyone is taking new jobs is because the market has reset salaries substantially higher

    A lot of white people underestimate the racism in their communities because they don't see it. Here's one thing you can do: if your community has a Facebook or other social group, ask the admins about what content/comments they've had to delete. Some ugly stuff out there.

    Here's the thing: North Carolina is really not a right-wing state. We're gerrymandered. NC is a state where democracy is failing, which makes it more critical than ever for us to fight back and hold the GOP accountable. That's what is doing.

    NC Republicans are now targeting trans kids for their cruel punching-down for political gain. They actually proposed a new bill targeting trans youth on the *day* of the 5-year anniversary of HB2. Racist voter suppression bills? Check. Anti-immigrant measures? Check. Those too.
