*Relative* to world average? That makes this a meaningless measurement of any property of the UK. It’s more a chart showing when the rest of the world started to catch up.

Unfortunately the size & population of the British Empire changed dramatically over this time frame. So you need to normalize your graph for that. I too would like to know your source for your data. Otherwise its just another pretty picture.
