Sonic 1 is such a dope game. I mean, yeah it does go downhill from Green Hill Zone. And yeah, only the odd numbered zones are good while the rest range from decent to crap, but because it's short, the good leaves a lasting impression and outweighs the bad.

I mean, it's not a perfect game. In fact, I had more fun with the 8 bit version on Master System. It kind of has "first game syndrome" especially when playing Labyrinth Zone. I'm also not the biggest fan of games that don't have save points ,but that's just me.
I mean yeah it's far from perfect, but I think Sonic 1 is getting A LOT of bad rep as of late, calling it one of the "bad" Sonic games. Honestly to this day I don't get it. I don't think it's as good as 2 or especially 3, but I still enjoy it, warts and all.

I think it's decent, especially with its superior iOS port, It's way too polished for me to call below average or even bad.

I think I went a bit too "giddy" 5 years ago when I gave it a 9.5/10, now I can see people's points about it, but still, I wouldn't score it any less than an 8 because I do think the good far outweighs the bad for me. If anything Marble shouldn't have been level 2.
