Not compared to Gnasty and the Sorceress.

I'll give you Gnasty, but the Sorceress is a significantly better villain than Ripto in every possible way except chemistry. You can't beat that Ripto/Spyro repartee, especially when Spyro never shares even a single conversation with the other two villains.

That's exactly why I pick Ripto over The Sorceress. I mean for one even her name is kind of generic and not very memorable. I did like that they explained her motivation, but even then she feels rather disconnected from the story since you don't even see her impact on the world.

As opposed to Ripto, who does not affect the events of any level in Spyro 2 whatsoever? The Sorceress' army of Rhynocs, on the other hand, consistently show up across Spyro 3 levels to cause trouble. In addition, she's the reason the eggs were stolen.

Kind of. Elora and the gang are all "Ripto's causing all sorts of trouble around here, and he's ruining everything! You have to get rid of him because stakes!" But all he really does is shut himself inside a few castles and throw up some banners.

That I can agree with, honestly I think Spyro 2 is all about each world's own turmoil than dealing with a villain that terrorized everyone. And the one knock I have against Spyro 2 is that the Talismans and the Orbs don't really mean much within the grand scheme of the plot.

Yes, and on that note, I do think that's a strength over 3 in that each level felt different (if disconnected from the Ripto thing) as opposed to 3 where it's always "Rhynocs showed up and did a thing." Except for the Midnight Mountain stages. Those plots were more like 2's.

Probably why Midnight Mountain is probably my favorite hub world in Spyro 3.

Lol. Can't believe a drunken tweet with grammatical errors has progressed to this kind of thread.
